Welcome to Cavé (Kah-vey)! We offer a seasonal, farm-to-table gluten free menu of healthy dishes made from scratch by Chef Doug Stehle, served in an intimate, casual bistro space. 

We use grassfed meats, pasture-raised poultry, wild game and a variety of seafood, vegetables, fruits, nuts and produce. All foods are carefully sourced from local and regional farms, fisheries and other specialty purveyors who like us, have the highest standards for quality and handling.

Chef Doug prepares innovative dishes based on a simple philosophy - eat like our ancestors did, only better! This simple hunter/gatherer lifestyle promotes healthy eating by eliminating processed, preservative-rich  "foods" our bodies are not designed to efficiently or to safely ingest. Simply put, Cavé foods satisfy your hunger and palate with one-of-a-kind nutrient-rich dishes that won't leave you feeling uncomfortable or bloated. 

 

I am a recently diagnosed celiac doing the paleo autoimmune protocol and was able to eat at Cavé every day over 4th of July weekend without getting sick, without any stress, and without even mentioning that I had celiac disease. The staff is also super friendly and the service was really great. Will definitely be making this my regular spot every time I visit Avon now.

DOUGLAS STEHLE, EXECUTIVE CHEF/OWNER

Following his own healthy transformation, award-winning chef Doug Stehle shares his passion for paleo at Cavé

Doug Stehle served as chef in nearly every facet of the food services industry. From fine dining and country clubs to universities and hospitals, Doug is deeply experienced in every facet of food services. For over a decade, Doug managed a large-scale dining operation for Princeton's residential students as Dining Hall Chef and managed the ivy league institution's alumni and special events catering operations. In 2011, Monmouth University recruited Doug as its Executive Chef, and later, Doug served as Executive Chef for Robert Woods Johnson Hospital. Inspired by his own healthy transformation after adopting the paleo lifestyle, Doug found his passion for creating healthy, but decadently delicious dishes.

Based on the whole foods diet of our paleolithic ancestors, paleo foods include meat, poultry, seafood, vegetables, certain nuts and fruits and other whole foods. Doug had been overweight and suffered from chronic back pain. Frustrated, he learned about the benefits of adopting the paleo lifestyle and decided to try it. The results were transformative. In a little over a year, Doug dropped 30 pounds and lost 3 inches from his waistline. Doug felt better and noticed that he had more energy, slept more soundly and, his back felt healthy again! He was hooked. So hooked, that he decided to introduce a healthier alternative for local foodies. Determined to demonstrate healthy and delicious go together, in 2012 Doug began the area's first healthy food meal service/personal chef service.

In 2013, Doug expanded on his successful personal chef service and introduced Cave´ restaurant. At Cavé, Doug develops creative recipes to satisfy a variety of palates with seasonal farm-to-table fare served in an intimate, casual environment.  As executive chef, Doug cares deeply about the quality and sustainability of the meats and foods he serves. He sources from regional farms and growers, fisheries and specialty purveyors. At Cavé, Doug and his team serve delicious one-of-a-kind plates simply not be had anywhere else.  Every week new dinner specials are introduced and a chef's tasting menu. 

Doug earned his culinary arts degree at Atlantic County Community College in 1994. Over the course of his career, Doug has won silver and bronze medals in various American Culinary Federation culinary competitions.

Our frequent customers have told us how much better they feel and look when they eat right.  When it comes to quality, Chef Doug uses the best ingredients available, including grass fed meats, pasture-raised poultry, wild game and seafood, vegetables, fruits, nuts and produce carefully sourced from local farms, fisheries and specialty purveyors.  Cavé Meals are gluten free grain free and guilt free!

  • A minimum order of 8 meals (4-day supply of lunch and dinner) is required to place an order.- $100
  • Pick up at Cavé 

Monday Pick up

Order by Sunday at noon by simply replying to the weekly email.  All orders will be ready for pick-up during Cavé's business hours each Monday, 12-9 pm. Not on the email list? Sign up below.

Helping Make Private Events Unforgettable

Cavé is the perfect spot for smaller, intimate affairs such as birthdays, showers, rehearsal dinners, anniversaries, workplace parties, or any special occasion. We can accommodate up to 32 guests who plan to be seated. 

At Cavé, we work with you to make your event unforgettable.  Chef Doug will work with you to plan and prepare a special menu, using the finest ingredients available. We provide an event planner to work with you before and onsite so the event unfolds as you envision, and so you can enjoy yourself, leaving us to accommodate the needs of your guests.  Because of our size, a buyout is required, ensuring our attention is 100% focused on your affair, and the restaurant is exclusively yours for the duration of the event.

We seemed to have developed an amazing grain free carrot cake using Ottos Cassava Flour. This is the best carrot cake Chef Doug has ever tasted...period. See if you agree. Made from wholesome ingredients, iced with a vanilla maple Swiss meringue buttercream using organic palm shortening and grassfed butter. It's crazy good!
